The people at Edmonton-based Fused Logic invited dub5 to participate in the forthcoming MacEwan Blogcamp. We happily accepted. Here’s some detail on the event, from the Blogcamp website:
BlogCamp is a unique online event designed to challenge students, develop new skills and raise awareness for MacEwan’s School of Business. Mixed in with a large variety of mandatory blog topics, each participant will also be invited to blog about their favorite topics, participate in a live webcast to entertain and inform the general public.
It’s a pretty significant undertaking, and a terrific exercise in the promotion, learning and teaching of social media tools.
Our participation came about a few weeks ago, as I’d spoken at the first annual U of A IDEAfest. I did a quick dub5 demo to a crowd of about 15 people, and was asked by Fused Logic’s CEO, Walter Schwabe, if we’d had the opportunity yet to “break” dub5. What he was asking was whether or not we’d ever had enough users logged into the system, using it and crashing it. The answer so far has been no, but that would definitely be one of those nice problems to have.
At the end of my talk, Walter approached me and told me about Blogcamp, and asked whether or not dub5 would be interested in participating. Of course, the answer was yes. “Great,” Walter said as he handed me his card. “I think we can help you break this thing.”
What a weird thing to be excited about.
So, here’s how we’re a part of the action. We’ve created a public group on dub5 called “MacEwan BlogCamp.” Participants are encouraged to sign-up for dub5 and join that group. They’ll then receive notices to their mobile phones or emails about events related to Blogcamp. And if event times or topics change, they’ll be informed of that as well. The neato part of the deal: dub5 users who are part of the group will see their personal calendars populated with event data, and all they have to do is either accept or decline event invitations via mobile or email.
Now that’s rad.
The MacEwan Blogcamp is taking place on Friday April 3, 2009 at MacEwan’s downtown campus from 12pm to 9pm.
